The Blog-Ethicist: Always Crashing In The Same Car

A van is illegally parked in front of a fire hydrant and restricting traffic flow by narrowing the lane at a median island choke point. Should I report this parking violation to the Transportation Safety and Neighborhood Livability Hot Line? Or do I abide by the popular adage: snitches get stitches? Anonymous, Portland, OR.

Coincidentally, somebody spray-painted "Snitch" on the side of another van that is parked nearby.

Call. Why shouldn't they have to follow the rules? And couldn't Portland use the revenue?

I say snitch. Parking is serious. Today i saw a mini-hummer that took up 2 spots in a mall parking lot and someone wrote "LEARN HOW TO PARK" in the dirt on their back window. A small but satisfying act.
