Socks with sandals, or sandals with socks

I'll tell you a secret: You can wear socks with sandals if you want to.

Thing is, no one seems to know where the "rule" came from. And sure, it's "ugly" and looks "stupid." But that really shouldn't matter. There are plenty of stupid, ugly fashions out there that some people find perfectly acceptable.

The other thing, you will never hear a man complain about sandals with socks unless he is actively ripping on another man and can't come up with an adequate insult of his mental acuity or sexual orientation.

Fortunately, I'm not alone in my incredulity about this "fashion" "rule."

I am one old man who stands tall and proud to wear socks with sandals, expecially when with the younger family members who seem to be embarrassed being seen with me.

I guess it is not a big deal, but what is the upside? If you're wearing socks, why not just go with shoes? Ventilation, I guess? It seems like it would be kind of uncomfortable.

Are you defending socks with ANY sandal (flip flop style shoes), or just the strap kind like a Roman soldier would wear?

I was just in Iowa a couple weeks ago and there were lots of dudes wearing socks with those adidas style single strap sandals that became popular while we were in high school. You know, the ones that have like a whole bunch of pegs that you stand on. They were pretty much ballin'.

But seriously Mark, what the hell? Of course you CAN wear socks with sandals, the question is should you. And the answer is a resounding no. Can women (or cross-dressers) wear socks or stockings with peep toe shoes or strappy sandals? Sure. Should they? Absolutely not, ask your wife.

The foot part of the sock or stocking is like the opposite of children, it is not meant to be seen. If you want to wear sandals or any sort of open-toed shoe you ought to get out the soap and a nail file.

But of course you can wear socks, it's your right. I'm pretty sure that's why our troops are fighting and dying in Iraq.
