Wife swapping is your future

I might as well spread the news.

I recieved word today from Ian that he and Julie are officially engaged.

All you ever do is fade away
All you ever do is fade away

I looked up the lyrics to that Blur song, and boy... I hope you don't write a post like this when I get engaged.

Depends on which Blur song you mean... I could quote the entire Great Escape for truth on this one...

But no, I am not a complete downer on love, it was more to reference the fact that Ian has never dated outside of Julie, which I hope we can agree is a dangerous decision.

Anyway, what the hell do I know? They are happy and I am a crotchety old man posting rehashed lyrics on the internet.

Well, I wish them the best. I guess this makes Julie our sister-in-law...

It's cool. I understand your feelings on this one. (And yes, The Great Escape does appear... perhaps... apt –– from what I understand of things.)

But I'm with Ben. I hope it all works well and I hope you don't have too many issues the next time you try to hook up with your "sister."

I feel like I just got put in one of those political debates where the discourse is pushed in ridiculous ways.

I never wanted to be in the anti-'wish them the best' camp!

I just wanted to express my healthy cynicism before next week when we help Ian drink until he is... how would Ian delicately put this... ah yes... autistic.

And trust me Mark, I won't have any issues. Haven't you ever seen Clueless?

Sure Logan... you deny that you're in the "wish them a crappy life" now and next you'll be denying that supported puppy drownings in High School or that you ever said that if Ben were a girl you'd "totally hit that."

If Ben were a girl I would totally hit it (with an aluminum bat).

Actually, that is a lie. Them Goldsmiths are loaded!

Check, please!

That didn't link right... the joke was the link to the Chapelle's sketch entitled "My Baby's Momma" at the bottom of the page.

Update: I had lunch with Ian and Julie today. I must be in an unusually agreeable mood, as I found Julie's ostentatious trumpeting of all things nuptial more exuberant than grating. They were both beaming, and it was infectious. Julie showed me the wedding band; she might as well have been presenting it to a cave fish.

I also saw two mating Box Elder bugs caught in a spider's web. I removed the webbing and released them from such a terribly symbolic demise.

Sounds extremely convivial. Did they set a date?

I think they are planning on September of 2007.
