!@%$#%@

"I'm opting out. No matter what, I'm going to get a raise regardless." — Boozer.

Apparently, the economy has even hit Carlos Boozer. That's bad news for the Jazz.

Whereas, before, I could at least hope that the team would let Boozer leave and use the money on a player worth the money (see below). It's now unlikely that the Jazz will have the room they need to resign Millsap.

The bright side for Millsap is that Cleveland is reportedly looking for a 4. And a fair-to-average 5 just opened up $6.2 million.

There is no bright side for Jazz fans.

If the Jazz brass are smart and the Millers are willing to spend they will match whatever Millsap gets offered.

It will mean taking a one year luxury tax hit, but Millap is a value that is unlikely to be replicated any time soon.

Boozer kind of screwed the Jazz twice here, first by being hurt so much that the rest of the league got to see how good Millsap is, and second yesterday by opting in, making it difficult for the Jazz to pay 'Sap.

But, if they can just pony up the money, they'll be in great shape for next year and 2010. Did Larry have a life insurance policy by chance? (insensitive?)

I agree with Brad. If we don't have Millsap in 2010, the Jazz are going to sink into "rebuilding" mode for a few years -- especially since Sloan has to bow out soon. Also, re-sign Price. That kid has heart. Dump Knight.

I think I am in the minority here, but I like the idea of this rendition of the Jazz team having one more shot at the playoffs. Let's just hope Boozer doesn't get injured and plays with a little bit more hustle now that his contract is up.

Rumors of Andre Miller being picked up by the Trailblazers makes me smile.

"We are excited that Carlos has decided to remain with the Jazz," general manager Kevin O'Connor said in a release. "We are hopeful he can continue to play at an All-Star level and will have an injury-free season."

LOL. What a backhanded compliment. And deserved.

ESPN says Jazz will try to resign Millsap because, as Brad has pointed out, they only have to deal with luxury cap for this year.

DO IT FOR LARRY!

The hottest Jazz rumour right now is Boozer traded to Detroit for Rip Hamilton. It's getting a lot of run on Rotowire and Yahoo and in the Detroit and SL papers.

Incredible move for the Jazz as a team, but I find it hard to believe because Rip is on the books for another 3 years, and they will certainly need to replace or resign Memo next year. It's probably too much scratch, although Korver and Harpring will both be gone in 2010.

Adding a guy like Rip would totally changes the team, Sap wouldn't have to carry as much of a burden offensively, Memo wouldn't be the only guy who can hit threes. . . it would be pretty sweet.

That would be sweet. I think Rip could play in Jerry Sloan's system even. I mean, if he's willing to work with mediocre like Giricek and better-than-average like Memo, a hard working shooter like Rip should do well.

But, like you said, that trade doesn't really solve the luxury tax problem.

Weighty reports that Portland is after Millsap. They seem to be the only other team left.

The cavs resigned Varejao, the Thunder don't appear to think spending on Millsap fits their long term plan.

You gotta think that Millsap would prefer to be in Utah behind Boozer not Portland behind Aldridge, I would bet that if Utah can come close to the p-town offer Sap will stay.

this trade makes way more sense for everyone.

Boozer to Chicago, Hinrich to P-Town, Tyrus Thomas to Utah are the main components. You'd probably have to add a player or two from Portland to Utah to make it work salary wise, but in the ESPN trade machine Boozer for Hinrich/Thomas goes through, it gives the Jazz more salary though, which is presumably why Portland would be brought in, cuz the Jazz could use Hinrich too.

if you add outlaw or webster it works. The jazz would probably prefer outlaw because his salary is off the books next year. The Blazers would probably prefer Webster because he's signed through 11/12. Then again they could use a guy who can shoot and Webster is a better shooter than Outlaw.

Now that makes sense for all parties involved.

Boozer and Rose would be a pretty sick combo.

Blazers are just going after Millsap to get the Jazz to pay the $$.
