Boldly...

Star Trek (2009)

Verdict: A shallow villain. Cheap comic book storytelling (I'd hope at the behest of the studio). And lacking logic to a level that makes me worry about Lost. Still, Kirk and Spock prove that they can almost always be interesting. Even in a brainless action movie.

As I predicted a couple of months ago: "A few great set pieces, some flat characterization, and a middling plot."

I mean I understand that they wanted to include Nimoy to provide legitimacy to the new Star Trek dynasty, but couldn't they have at least developed a more compelling plot-line? The beginning sequences generated a tremendous amount of good will, but the more I think about anything involving the plot the more I start to grimace. And if you are making a kinetic streamlined summer blockbuster why waste anytime with stupid sequences like the ice planet and Scotty getting stuck in some pipes?

@Mark: you have every reason to worry about LOST, but Orci and Kurtzman shouldn't be one of them. They are responsible for Alias and Fringe, not to mention MI:3 and Transformers. LOST's success or failure rests on Damon Lindelof. I am keeping my fingers crossed for the season finale.
