pabst is owned by the pabst brewing company, which is now the largest american owned brewing company now that the germans own bud.

In 2001, Pabst became a "virtual brewer" -- it now outsources all of its brewing to Miller. The only people who work for Pabst Brewing Company are marketing and sales executives.
It is a humorous irony that PBR has such an anti-corporate consumer image, when in fact, it is a brand maintained by an advertising agency.
