Netflix Two Cents: Zombiepocalypse!!
Land of the Dead (2005)
Verdict: Romero returns with this delicious social satire a la plenty of flesh eating and intestinal munching. When the line between zombie and human is blurred, go with your gut: blow up Dennis Hopper and move to Canada.
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Verdict: Fun and surprisingly well directed (this dude is doing Watchmen?!), but entirely inconsequential. No subtle societal critiques = not a worthwhile zombie flick.
House of the Dead(2003)
Verdict: My cousins told me this was the worst movie they had ever seen.
They were right.

you finished Land of the Dead without me? I feel betrayed.
Relieved, however that I wasn't there for House of the Dead. . .
why?
It's interesting that you prefer Land of the Dead to Day of the Dead. While neither is Romero's best. (I still prefer the original Night of the Living Dead, but I can see why most prefer Dawn of the Dead.)
Land of the Dead is too preachy... although Day is slightly boring. Anyway, both use the ubiquitous Zombie movie metaphor: thoughtful evil –– humans –– are scarier than mindless evil.
In related news Shaun of the Dead was on Comedy Central all weekend. Greatest. Zombie. Movie. Ever.
bro, you are getting your zombie films mixed up. i still haven't seen day of the dead and i saw the remake of dawn of the living dead, so i can't rank the romero's.
yeah. i caught bits and pieces of shaun of the dead over the weekend. some awful cable network was playing the butterfly effect on repeat for the halloween season, which i don't really understand because the movie isn't scary but just terribly unpleasant (for those of you who haven't seen the movie let me put some wonderful images in your head: ashton kutcher, paraplegic and pedaphile).
Totally confused. I swear I looked at that and saw a review for Day of the Dead... that's actually a pretty fair summary of my mental state of late. I'm more scatter-brained than I've ever been in my life 0_o. (Only 30 days to go!)
In that case, you're completely backwards in your review. Land of the Dead, frankly, blows. Not only is it preachy... but it's boring too.
The Dawn remake, on the other hand, rocks.
Oh yes, and one correction. Shaun of the Dead is actually the Greatest. Rom. Zom. Com. Ever!
Mark, you wouldn't know a Zombie movie if it bit you on the arm and ate your innards.
Logan... so's your face.
Mark FTW!
