"Can I trust you?"
Asked the stranger at the coffee shop. "I have to run back home and grab a power cord. Will you watch my laptop for me?"
I shrugged, not entirely sure this was not a scam.

Why wouldn't this person take his/her laptop with him/her? I can't imagine a situation where I brought a laptop with me to a coffee shop, but then couldn't be troubled to haul the 5.2 lbs with me to get a power cord.
Agreed. Stuff like this is why I have standard excuses like, "Sorry. I'm on call and I might have to leave at any minute."
I just appreciated the opening reverse-liar's paradox.
To be fair, the person's computer was pretty crappy.
